Today’s walk included:
Arizona sun chaos, mesquite tree pit stops, hummingbirds hiding in the canopy, a surprise goldfinch sighting that reminded me of my grandma, and a soundtrack powered by Drowning Pool, Pat Benatar, Metallica, Motörhead, and whatever Spotify chaos goblin currently controls my playlists.
Highlights included:
– watching a tow truck haul off a fire truck
– seeing my regular scooter mystery character rolling through the neighborhood again
– sitting under church mesquite trees where my kids once played
– getting absolutely judged by a mockingbird during photography attempts
– cooling off under what is now officially called the Aquanet Tree
This stopped being “a walk” somewhere around the second shade break and turned into a full Arizona side quest odyssey.
2.8 miles.
184 zone minutes.
116 cardio load.
Birds hiding in mesquite canopies.
A goldfinch sighting that unlocked childhood memories of my grandma.
A mockingbird supervising my photography skills during the Aquanet Tree emergency cooldown stop.
Views of Shaw Butte looking like the final level in an 80s action movie.
Soundtrack:
Spiderbait’s “Black Betty,” Motörhead, Metallica, Pat Benatar, Drowning Pool, and apparently “survive the sun” energy.
One minute I’m power walking with vigorous heart rate minutes.
The next I’m sitting under the church mesquite trees, thinking about having four kids before 25, laughing about the time we accidentally brought the empty baby carrier to church and had to execute an Indiana Jones style retreat to retrieve the actual baby.

Meanwhile Fitbit is over here acting like: “Ma’am, are you training for battle?”
Honestly?
This is exactly why I keep saying wellness isn’t just treadmills and perfect routines.
Sometimes it’s: music, heat, birds, memories, shade breaks, laughter, tiny neighborhood observations, and continuing anyway.
