Monday, April 27, 2026 in North Phoenix. A beautiful,  cool morning with a bright, warming sun.

After travel, elevation walks, and a lot of moving pieces…
this one felt like coming home.

2.56 miles
5,793 steps
78 zone minutes

Cardio load: 49 (knocking on target range 👀)

Halfway coffee secured.
Egg bites in hand.
Turnaround earned.

On the way out,

I had 🎧 the podcast The History Chicks in my ears—talking about Laura Ingalls Wilder starting her writing career in her 60s.

Not only that…

they were redoing one of their own early episodes—cleaner, stronger, with better research.

So basically:

  • Laura reinvented herself later in life
  • The podcast reinvented itself later too
  • And there I was 50, building my new chapter in life with WWS… walking.
Still building. Still figuring it out.

Travel walks are beautiful, don’t get me wrong…

But having to watch GPS the whole time so I don’t get lost?

It takes a little of the peace out of it.

This one?

I just get to walk.

No thinking.

No navigating.

Just rhythm.

And yeah… that felt really, really good.

On the way back,

I ran into Jeffrey—my former football player walking buddy I’ve been seeing since September.

He hurt his ankle back in December, and it’s been a slow recovery…

but today?

He was moving so much better.

We both do that arm-swing power walk thing—so when we approach each other it looks like we’re about to throw hands 😂

He always steps off the sidewalk to give me space.

This time I slowed down and said:
“If we share the sidewalk, I promise it won’t turn into a Muhammad Ali fight.”

Got a smile.

Got a laugh.

Worth it.

Massachusetts walks had elevation but were shorter.

This one?

Longer.

Steady.

Familiar.

And honestly…
It felt like a reset.

Wedding season is in full swing:
Massachusetts ✔️
(Oregon missed 😅)
Nebraska next.

Different places. Different walks.
Still figuring out what feels good.

But today?

This felt like me again.

Still counts. Always.
