Sometimes the best part of Jazzercise isn’t just the workout—it’s whatever weird movie my brain decides to play while I’m trying to remember the choreography.

One routine has a galloping rhythm that immediately transports me to the dance contest in Grease. “Born to Hand Jive.” Every time we do it, my brain insists that I’m supposed to be twirling an imaginary lasso. Nobody else is doing it, but every once in a while I have to fight the urge to throw that lasso anyway. 🤠

Another routine reminds me of Save the Last Dance, when Julia Stiles is learning to loosen up and find a little swagger. In my head, I’m pulling up imaginary saggy jeans, dropping my hips, spinning, and trying to look cool instead of like a ballerina. It cracks me up every single time.

The funny thing is that these little movie scenes actually help me remember the choreography. Instead of counting steps, my brain says, “Oh! This is the lasso dance,” or, “Here come the saggy jeans.”

Who knew fitness would come with its own private movie marathon?

Today’s workout was another great one:
1 hour 20 minutes of movement
630 calories burned
121 Active Zone Minutes
Plenty of smiles and laughs along the way

Jazzercise Receipts

Great news! Last night, my mom offered to help cover my Jazzercise membership for the next couple of months, which means I can keep going after the summer. I’m incredibly grateful.

The plan is to keep my Starbucks walks Monday through Friday, but on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays I’ll walk from Starbucks to Jazzercise, enjoy class, then walk back to my car. Wednesdays and Fridays will stay dedicated to my neighborhood Steps for Sips walks.

It’s turning into the perfect combination of walking, strength training, cardio, and a whole lot of laughter.

Apparently all I needed to enjoy dancing was to imagine I was in Grease one minute and Save the Last Dance the next.

Sometimes fitness is serious.

Sometimes it’s an imaginary lasso and a pair of saggy jeans.

Both still count. Always!
