Date night doesn’t have to be fancy to be memorable.
Tonight’s adventure took us to Oscar’s Taco Shop for what turned out to be one of the best values we’ve found in a long time. Andrew ordered the two pork tamale combo plate, and I went with the shrimp bowl.
When they say shrimp bowl, they mean it. The bowl was about 10 inches across and packed with romaine lettuce, Spanish rice, refried beans, guacamole, shredded cheese, pico de gallo, and what I would estimate was 15–20 shrimp. Most places toss a few shrimp on top and call it a day. Oscar’s was generous.
The real surprise, though, was the Spanish rice. It’s my favorite in town—light and fluffy instead of heavy, with little bits of corn and carrots mixed throughout. I could happily eat a bowl of that all by itself.
The total? 🥗 Shrimp Bowl — $11
🫔 Two Pork Tamale Combo — $10
🥤 Regular drinks included with both meals
While we ate, a random kids movie was playing on Netflix in the restaurant, which somehow made the evening even more entertaining.
After 28 years of marriage, we’ve learned that the best date nights aren’t necessarily the expensive ones. Sometimes they’re tacos, tamales, a giant shrimp bowl, a cartoon playing in the background, and a conversation with your favorite person.

Life is too short for the answer to always be no.

Enjoy the moment.

Going back to the plan tomorrow still counts. ❤️🌮🍤🍿
