My ex-husband Mike was a police officer, and this is apparently one of the most chaotic cat stories to ever happen on a night shift.
One night he found a cat that had been hit by a car. He honestly believed the cat had passed away, so he carefully bagged it and placed it in the trunk of the squad car to deal with after shift.
Except…
THE CAT WAS NOT DEAD. 😳
At the end of the shift, Mike forgot the cat was in the trunk. The next morning the squad car went in for an oil change, and the mechanics suddenly heard MEOWING coming from inside the trunk.
Imagine being the technician opening a police cruiser expecting tools and paperwork and instead discovering a screaming resurrection cat.
The cat woke up overnight, survived the entire ordeal, made a full recovery, and was eventually adopted out. 🥹
Apparently Mike’s follow-up lecture afterward was basically:
“Do not forget dead bodies in the trunk…
…and also make sure they are actually dead and not just in need of help.”
Honestly, that clarification feels VERY important. 😂
Cats truly operate under a completely different set of survival rules than the rest of us. Somewhere out there is probably still a mechanic telling this story at every family gathering:
“One time we found a zombie cat in a squad car during an oil change.”
Meanwhile the cat was probably just:
“Your mortal assumptions mean nothing to me.” 😼
