Some workouts happen in a studio. Others happen with a litter scoop.
This morning started with Jazzercise #15—an hour of dancing, cardio, and a fun Red Hot Chili Peppers routine. Even better, we skipped the infamous arm-torture song. I’ll happily take that win. The Van Halen sighting turned out to be the “Dance the Night Away” goodbye song, which is a pretty fun way to end class.
Workout highlights:
- ⏱️ 1:03:09
- 🔥 469 calories burned
- ❤️ Average heart rate: 123 bpm
- 💪 83 Active Zone Minutes
- 🟡 30 minutes in the vigorous zone

Then came Round 2 of today’s movement: the cat boxes.
Three litter boxes don’t clean themselves. It’s a steady cycle of scoop, sift, dump repeated over and over while holding what feels like a permanent squat over the box. Add in carrying litter, vacuuming the floors multiple times, and plenty of bending and reaching, and it’s a surprisingly solid strength workout.
Fitbit called it “Cleaning”:
- ⏱️ 1:00:59
- 🔥 192 calories burned
- ❤️ Average heart rate: 100 bpm
- 💪 Cardio Load: 9
The watch sees my heart rate, but it doesn’t understand how hard my legs, back, and shoulders are working.
That’s one of the reasons I love talking about Incidental Exercise Receipts. Real life movement counts, even when it doesn’t look like a traditional workout.

Next up tonight: Tilt Studio pinball league
which means several trips up and down two flights of stairs between rounds. More movement disguised as having fun.
Today’s reminder:
You don’t stop taking care of the cats just because you don’t feel like exercising. Sometimes life hands you a workout whether you planned one or not.
Still counts. Always.💜
