Today’s class with Robyn was one of those workouts where you forget you’re exercising because you’re too busy laughing.

Well…until the arm song starts.

Robyn warned us ahead of time.
“Okay, I know you’re gonna hate this, but we’re doing it anyway.”

At least she was honest!

The good news?

My arms survived the entire song without cramping, and they still worked just fine later for pinball. A few weeks ago I wondered if Jazzercise would interfere with my flipper skills. Instead, it seems to be making me stronger.

My abs, however, would like to file a formal complaint.

They were already sore from yesterday’s class before I even walked through the door.

Fortunately, Robyn surprised us with an extra 15-minute stretch session after strength training, and I have to admit it felt wonderful. It was exactly what my body needed.

One of my favorite parts of Jazzercise is that it isn’t just the workout anymore—it’s the people.

Robyn continued telling us about her daughter’s Fourth of July party. Her youngest daughter, Rachel, is a third-grade teacher who apparently turned the family barbecue into a full Revolutionary War history lesson complete with costumes, trivia, skits, and plays.

Somehow Robyn ended up playing Samuel Adams.

Another family member became “Baberaham Lincoln,” complete with a beard.

Apparently there was also “scandalous Revolutionary history trivia,” but Robyn never actually explained what made it scandalous. So now the whole class is left wondering what Benjamin Franklin was up to.

She tells these stories while teaching choreography without missing a beat. As a former teacher, I have a whole new appreciation for that level of multitasking.

I also spent part of class watching one of the regulars.

She’s an older blonde lady who dances with so much joy. During one of the songs she threw in a little 1960s go-go dance move that instantly reminded me of To Sir, with Love and that whole era of music and dance.

The second time she did it, I caught myself thinking:
“If she does that one more time, I’m joining her.”

I love little moments like that.

Maybe it’s because my Great Grandma B lived through so many incredible eras of history. She flew biplanes, wore flapper dresses when they were actually in style, lived through both World Wars, and was always learning something new. Those little glimpses of different decades always catch my attention because they remind me that history wasn’t just something in a textbook—it was somebody’s everyday life.

Fitness trackers still don’t know what to do with Jazzercise.

Mine insists it’s “dancing.”
Sure…if dancing includes cardio, HIIT, strength training, core work, dumbbells, stretching, and enough arm exercises to make everyone groan at the same time.
