Okay, Jazzercise #39 was FUN. This one was pretty straightforward, and we were trucking all over the place to Dolly Parton, Miley Cyrus, Bruno Mars, and Taylor Swift. Basically, a little bit of everything and a whole lot of moving. 😂
But apparently, the theme lately has been BALANCE.
We’ve been doing a lot more single-leg work—lifting one leg to the side, bringing it back in, kicking it out in front without putting the foot down, and generally asking my body to remain upright while my legs do things independently.
And I’m getting better at it!
I still occasionally have to touch the floor in the middle to regain my balance, but I’m getting the hang of it. And considering where I started, that’s actually pretty exciting.
When I first started Jazzercise, there was a strength move where we had to hold a barbell up while lifting the leg on the same side and kicking it out. I literally laughed out loud because I was thinking, “There is absolutely NO WAY my body is doing that without me falling on my head.” 😂
Fast-forward to now: that move is easy.
It took me about two weeks of regular cardio before I even got brave enough to try the dumbbells. Now I’m using dumbbells regularly, and today I bumped myself up to five-pound weights for the strength portion instead of my usual three- or four-pounders.
We’re getting somewhere.
We’re moving at the speed of a herd of turtles, but we’re moving. 🐢🐢🐢
Today’s workout was 1 hour, 6 minutes, with 416 calories burned, an average heart rate of 112 bpm, and 64 active-zone minutes. I spent 35 minutes in the moderate zone and another 14 minutes in the vigorous zone, with no peak-zone time. So apparently my definition of “pretty straightforward” still involves getting some work done. 😂

And I made another good decision today: there was one routine with a LOT of bouncing, and my left ankle wasn’t particularly interested in participating. So I stepped out, drank some coffee, let the bouncing portion happen, and jumped right back in afterward.
No torture required. The ankle is fine, and I still got the workout.
The new shoes are also continuing to prove themselves. My feet are getting more accustomed to them, and I really like that they don’t push on my arches the way my old inserts did.
So, yeah…
More weight. Better balance. Less fear. More confidence. Better shoes.
And apparently, I’ve learned a new word along the way:
Proprioception.
That’s the fancy word for knowing where your body is in space without having to look at it. And apparently, we’re working on that, too. 😎
Dolly had the perfect message for today:

I think I’m figuring it out.
Still counts. Always!❤️
