Happy 1st Birthday to The Outpost Arcade! Thirty players came out for this 10-round Swiss qualifying tournament featuring two games per round. The top 14 advanced to Sunday’s finals (with the top two earning byes).
I finished tied for 19th place with 76 points.
Round 1 (8 points)
Dune – 3rd (3 points)
Sorcerer – 2nd (5 points)
A solid start to the day. I split the round with a third on Dune and a second on Sorcerer.
Round 2 (8 points)
Star Wars: Fall of the Empire – 4th (1 point)
Star Trek: The Next Generation – 4th (1 point)
This was my toughest pairing of the day with Hailey Buhrman, Fae Ashley, and Cory Tinsley. Both games got away from me.
Round 3 (8 points)
JAWS Premium/LE – 2nd (5 points)
Buck Rogers – 2nd (5 points)
Back on track with two strong second-place finishes against Milliana Bizzi and Stephen Shufran.
Round 4 (8 points)
Star Trek (Pro) – 3rd (3 points)
Volcano – 2nd (5 points)
Another consistent round. Volcano treated me much better than Star Trek Pro.
Round 5 (2 points)
Ultraman: Kaiju Rumble – 4th (1 point)
Total Nuclear Annihilation – 4th (1 point)
Definitely the low point of the tournament. Michael Forsee and Dave Halley both had excellent rounds, and I couldn’t get anything going.
Round 6 (11 points)
Venom (LE) – 2nd (4 points)
Genesis – 1st (7 points)
A huge bounce-back round! I grabbed my first win of the tournament on Genesis after taking second on Venom.
Round 7 (8 points)
The Walking Dead (Pro) – 2nd (5 points)
Cirqus Voltaire – 3rd (3 points)
Another respectable round against Dan Torrens and Tina Buhrman.
Round 8 (14 points)
Elvira’s House of Horrors – 1st (7 points)
World Cup Soccer – 1st (7 points)
My best round of the tournament! Two first-place finishes for a perfect 14-point round and exactly the momentum I needed.
Round 9 (10 points)
Metallica (Pro) – 1st (7 points)
Volcano – 3rd (3 points)
Another great round highlighted by my second first-place finish of the afternoon.
Round 10 (8 points)
Pokémon (Premium) – 3rd (3 points)
Buck Rogers – 2nd (5 points)
I closed qualifying with another solid 8-point round against Dan Torrens, Dave Henning, and Dave Buhrman.
Final Thoughts
I finished tied for 19th with 76 points in a very competitive 30-player field. While I came up short of the Top 14 finals, I’m proud of how I recovered after a couple of rough rounds. I earned three first-place finishes, several seconds, and stayed competitive throughout the day.
