Some workouts are memorable because of the calories burned. Others are memorable because of the people.
Today was definitely the second kind.

Before class even started, we were standing around chatting and laughing like a bunch of high school friends who suddenly realized, “Oh yeah… we’re here to exercise!”

One of the ladies showed up in an amazing rainbow tie-dye outfit with electric green, orange, and pink, complete with fringe, lime green socks, and matching shoes. I couldn’t help myself.

“I like your style.”

She smiled and replied, “I like your style too. Life is too boring not to have some cool threads.”

I couldn’t agree more.

Our conversation quickly wandered into the engineering challenges of homemade boho overalls, including the very important question of how to get in and out of them quickly without creating an unexpected wardrobe malfunction. Let’s just say Velcro straps were discussed… and immediately vetoed by someone with firsthand experience!

Meanwhile, another classmate, Sandy, looked as elegant as ever in her classic black workout outfit with beautiful earrings and polished makeup. She laughed and said she enjoys watching the rest of us have fun with colorful clothes while she sticks to her signature style.

I told her, “Yeah, but you clean up good.”
She smiled and said her dad used to tell her that.

I told her my great-grandpa used to tell me the same thing.

It was one of those unexpectedly sweet moments where a simple compliment turned into sharing family memories.

One thing I love about this class is that everyone has their own style. Some of us wear bright colors, some wear timeless black, some wear whimsical earrings, and some wear fringe. Nobody is trying to look like anyone else. Everyone just appreciates each other’s personality.

Oh… and eventually we remembered to exercise. Turns out, laughter makes a pretty great warm-up.
