Monsoon clouds rolled into the Valley this morning, making for a beautiful drive to class. Before heading in, I made the traditional Starbucks stop, coffee in hand and ready to dance.

Today’s outfit leaned all the way into my love of the 1980s. My leggings were a colorful mash-up of Care Bears, Rainbow Brite, and My Little Pony, finished off with Care Bear earrings. If you’re going to sweat through a workout, you might as well do it with a little nostalgia.

The playlist was all over the musical map—in the best possible way. We danced to Aretha Franklin, Fine Young Cannibals, Run-D.M.C.’s “It’s Tricky,” Justin Bieber, and plenty of other surprises. There was even the routine where several of us couldn’t resist adding our own unofficial lasso move. It’s definitely not part of the choreography, but somehow it makes the song even more fun.

There are still two songs I need to identify. One is built around a catchy whistling melody, and another has a really fun box-step routine with hip-hop-inspired arm movements. Apparently I’ve been enjoying those dances for weeks without ever learning what the songs are called. I’ll have to ask Robyn next class. She’ll know exactly which routines I’m talking about.

Fitness-wise, it was another strong morning. Fitbit logged 1 hour and 4 minutes, 527 calories burned, an average heart rate of 134 bpm, and 88 Active Zone Minutes. Most of the workout was spent in the vigorous heart-rate zone, so it was definitely a challenge—but one that left me energized instead of drained.

As always, the best part wasn’t the numbers. It was walking out of class smiling, sweaty, singing songs that had been stuck in my head for an hour, and already looking forward to doing it all again next time.

Still counts. Always. 💜
