Today was Jazzercise #12, and I had an absolute blast!
The choreography is finally starting to click. Instead of spending half the class wondering what my feet were supposed to be doing, I found myself right there with Robyn through almost the entire routine. That alone felt like a huge victory.
Then…
🎵 Firework by Katy Perry started playing.
Apparently, my brain has developed a Pavlovian response to that routine because I accidentally blurted out, “Oh no!”
just a little louder than I intended.
Robyn looked over at me, laughed, and said, “It’s the last time. I only pull this one out occasionally.”
I immediately replied, “Oh, thank God!”
Who knew I’d ever hear Katy Perry and instantly think, “My shoulders…”
The funny part is, I actually like the song. It’s just permanently associated with one particularly spicy Jazzercise routine now.
Jazzercise Receipts

The other highlight of the morning had nothing to do with exercise.
I met a wonderful lady named Roxanne. She’s heading north for the summer and was telling me how much she’ll miss taking classes in person because the online workouts just aren’t the same.
That reminded me of the low-impact walking workouts I used to do before discovering Jazzercise, especially the fun 50s and 60s oldies walking videos.
She pulled out her phone right there, looked them up on YouTube, and took a screenshot so she could find them later.
We ended up chatting about teaching, life, and exercise after class ended. It reminded me how quickly a shared interest can turn into a genuine conversation.
One of my favorite parts of Jazzercise has surprised me.
Yes, I’m getting stronger.
Yes, my cardio is improving.
But I’m also meeting some really wonderful people.
Sometimes the best thing you gain from an exercise class isn’t just a workout.
Sometimes it’s a new friend.
Still counts. Always. 💜
