One of the unexpected perks of becoming an empty nester is getting to spend more time with my mom.
This week’s Foodie adventure took us to Angry Crab Shack for a seafood feast that was equal parts delicious and entertaining.
If you’ve never been to a seafood boil restaurant, be prepared. They don’t just bring you dinner—they bring you a plastic bib, seafood tools, and what feels like a temporary license to make a glorious mess.

Mama immediately entered what I can only describe as The Crab Zone.
Fork in hand, seafood scissors at the ready, she became completely focused on the mission at hand:
extracting every last morsel of crab meat from the shell.
At that point, conversation became optional.
Efficiency was not.
I, on the other hand, was busy taking pictures, laughing at the giant yellow bib, and enjoying the experience.
Our feast included:
snow crab legs, shrimp, corn on the cob, potatoes, and hush puppies.

I ordered some bread for sopping up the sauce, but it wasn’t quite what I expected, so I passed on it.
It was the kind of meal that arrives looking intimidating at first, but somehow disappears one crab leg at a time.
One thing I appreciate about seafood boils is that they slow you down.
Nobody accidentally inhales a pile of crab legs.
You have to work for your dinner, which somehow makes every bite taste even better.

The restaurant itself was a fun surprise. Sharks hanging from the ceiling, pelicans watching over the dining room, giant sea turtles on the walls, fishing nets, lobsters, and enough nautical décor to make you forget you’re sitting in the middle of the Arizona desert.
Speaking of Arizona…
On the drive there and back, the sky was putting on a show. Massive cloud towers were building across the Valley, giving us one of those classic June afternoons when monsoon season starts teasing us with possibilities. The clouds were almost as impressive as the seafood.

The whole day felt like one of those simple moments that remind me why I started Wellness Whiskers Silverballs in the first place.
Wellness isn’t always meal prep, workouts, and step counts.
Sometimes it’s sharing a meal with someone you love, laughing over giant crab legs, and taking the long way home so you can admire the clouds.
And for the record, I think the Angry Crab mascot and my mom share the same philosophy:
Leave no crab meat behind.
Still Counts Moment
Quality time with Mama ✔️
Good food ✔️
Lots of laughter ✔️
Cloud watching ✔️
I’d call that a success!
