This morning started with Fitbit informing me that I only slept 5 hours and 36 minutes and that Phoenix was headed for 107°F.
Its recommendation?
“Maybe take it easy today.”
That’s adorable.
Instead, I went to Jazzercise.
For anyone keeping score, this was Jazzercise #5 since coming back this summer. What I learned today is that I apparently haven’t been there in 20 years, not 10 like I originally thought. One of the regulars informed me that the studio didn’t recently move next door—they moved two decades ago.
Oops.
That realization made me laugh because I suddenly remembered the 70-year-old woman who used to absolutely kick my butt in class back then. I was in my late 20s, juggling four kids, running on caffeine and chaos, and there was always some retired lady dancing circles around me.
Apparently some things never change.
Today’s class was a blast.
One song came on that Andrew listens to as a hard-rock version, and I spent the entire routine trying to remember what it was called. Of course, the second class ended, the song title completely exited my brain. I’ve searched half of Spotify and have no clue what it was anymore. Hopefully it shows up again tomorrow.
The workout itself was no joke:
💃 37 minutes
💃 364 calories burned
💃 68 active zone minutes
💃 Average heart rate: 143 bpm
💃 24 minutes vigorous
💃 7 minutes peak
According to Fitbit, I spent 31 of 37 minutes in vigorous or peak zones.

Not bad for someone who supposedly needed to take it easy.
The funny thing is that 20-something Christy would probably be shocked by current Christy.
She’d be impressed by the pinball tournaments.
She’d be jealous of the five cats.
She’d be completely confused by the fact that I talk to a computer regularly and somehow became a writer.
And she’d definitely need a nap after hearing about the combination of walking, Jazzercise, blogging, reading thousands of books, and chasing pinballs around Arizona.

Meanwhile, current Christy is sitting on the patio after class with sore legs, a sweaty shirt, and absolutely zero regrets.
Fitbit can nag me again tomorrow.
Today still counts.
