Beat the Heat!

Phoenix summer strategy: get out there before the giant laser beam in the sky reaches full power.

This morning I beat both alarms. My first alarm went off at 6:30. My second alarm went off at 7:00. By then I already had Starbucks in hand and was hanging out with my hummingbird friend.

The walk included traffic lights, photo stops, bathroom logistics, Bunny Tree, Caterpillar Shrub, a newly painted utility box, and a quick neighborhood bird census. Fitbit says I set a new pace record for this route. I say I was motivated by the rapidly approaching heat.

The return trip featured a determined search for shade. Unfortunately, several trees were unwilling to cooperate, and the eucalyptus tree I had pinned my hopes on turned out to be mostly decorative.

Made it home by 7:50 AM, where Andrew was still asleep and Xena was looking at me like I’d violated multiple household policies by leaving before sunrise.

Xena appeared deeply concerned that breakfast scheduling protocols had not been properly followed.

Walk Receipts

Movement doesn’t have to be perfect. Sometimes it’s just getting out the door early, grabbing a coffee, and making it home before Arizona turns into the surface of the sun.

Still Counts.
