I’m back. 😱

Today ended up being one of those “this is why I keep doing this” days.

Two walks. Arizona sunshine. Music. Desert colors. Coffee.

Recovery movement that slowly turned into a real cardiovascular effort by the second session.

Walk 1

45 minutes
1.26 miles
Avg HR 91 bpm
100% Light Zone
Cardio Load 2

Walk Receipts

The first walk felt more restorative — settling back into rhythm after travel, letting my body loosen up, easing back into Arizona mode.

The funny thing is that the heat felt dramatic at first… until I reminded myself that when I originally started this journey back on September 1st, it was hotter than this all the time.

Back then I was nervous constantly while walking.

I watched every crack in the sidewalk.

Every curb ramp felt risky.

I was overly aware of my ankles, knees, hips, balance — all of it.

I spent more time looking at my feet than looking around me.

Walking didn’t feel freeing yet.

It felt cautious.

Somewhere along the line, music changed that.

I started moving with the rhythm instead of fighting through the minutes. I started bebopping around during walks instead of monitoring every step like a safety inspector.

The dancing distracted me from the fear, but it also quietly built stamina, confidence, and endurance at the same time.

That confidence changes everything.

Walk 2

The second walk shifted from active recovery into a purposeful cardiovascular challenge:
48 minutes
1.26 miles
2,946 steps
347 calories burned
40 minutes in moderate zone
7 minutes vigorous zone
Average heart rate: 120 bpm

Even in rising Phoenix heat, the effort stayed remarkably steady.

And honestly? Today didn’t feel miserable at all.

Most of my shady tree stops weren’t even because I needed recovery.

They were because the lighting was beautiful and I wanted pictures.

The desert was showing off today.

The giant purple cactus looked almost unreal — dusty mints, faded fuchsias, lavender paddles, and deep violet shadows against that impossible Arizona blue sky. Earlier in the season it explodes with absurd neon-yellow flowers that look like somebody attacked the plant with a fluorescent highlighter marker.

The flowers are gone now, but the cactus still looks painted by hand.

And “Aquanet Tree” was out there looking dramatic as always, hairspray-commercial ready in the sunlight.

That’s probably the biggest change from when I first started: I’m not just enduring the walks anymore.

Now I actually notice the world while I’m inside them.

Still counts. Always.
